The Alpha-1 Association monitors and influences Federal legislation and regulations that affect individuals and families living with Alpha-1. We accomplish this by collaborating closely with the Alpha-1 Foundation and other national organizations such as the Coalition of Genetic Fairness and Genetic Alliance with similar public policy goals.

There are many issues of concern to the Alpha-1 community that can make an impact on the quality of life for Alphas and for future generations. Please take a moment and browse through our Advocacy section to become familiar with our current Public Policy Agenda and other issues of concern to Alphas such as organ allocation and traveling with oxygen. Your help is needed to move forward our agenda by participating in our Action Alert! Program, which provides all the tools you need to make an effective contact with members of government.

The Alpha-1 Community has declared May as Alpha-1 Awareness month. Alphas are encouraged to create awareness of Alpha-1 in their local communities to promote detection and spread the word of Alpha-1. Less than 10% of those estimated to have Alpha-1 in the US have been diagnosed. Your local Support Group or the Alpha-1 Association can assist you in community outreach activities.
