Building Friends for a Cure Walk in memory of Lorraine Cimino

On Saturday, May 19th, 2024 Mario Cimino together with friends and family organized a walk in memory of his late aunt Lorraine Cimino.  Over 100 participants registered for the event held at Bay 8th Street in Brooklyn, New York to raise over $6,000 in Lorraine’s name for the Alpha-1 Foundation to help others struggling with the disease and to help find a cure.

“My Aunt Lorraine was the brightest light that shined on this Earth. Let’s give back the love that Lorraine always gave to each of us by honoring her at this fundraiser,” said Mario Cimino.

About 80 of Lorraine’s closest friends and family gathered on what was supposed to be a gloomy overcast day and turned out to be the hottest day of the year with the sun shining down on all of us. This was fitting because the banner made to commemorate Lorraine read; “Remembering Lorraine Cimino, the brightest light that shined on this Earth”. Everyone felt her light, presence, and love that day. At the event, participants walked two miles around the park, ate a potluck-style lunch, and shared stories about Lorraine

“I knew very early after my aunt’s passing that I wanted to do an event to honor her. My aunt was a warrior who never gave up hope and fought until the end. Not only was she an inspiration of strength her entire life, but she was an idol of love, and her family and friends still feel that love every day. That love was especially present on May 19th, when we hosted the first annual memorial event for Lorraine Cimino,” exclaimed Cimino.
