3rd Annual Alpha-1 Gulf Coast Ride in Dunedin, FL

The sun was shining over beautiful Dunedin, Florida, as the Alpha-1 Foundation (A1F) once again joined forces with the American Lung Association (ALA) for the 3rd Annual Alpha-1 Gulf Coast Ride. Riders and volunteers came together to raise awareness and funds for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1) and celebrate the strength and unity of the incredible Alpha-1 community.

The day was filled with energy, hope, and purpose as every mile pedaled helped spread awareness and support for those living with Alpha-1. A1F proudly sponsored the Pediatric Ride, inspiring our youngest participants to participate in the event.

Thank you to the Brown Family for leading the Pediatric Ride. As this year’s top fundraisers, raising over $6,000, we applaud them for their continued support. Jessica, Thomas, and Thomas Jr.’s spirit and dedication to the Alpha-1 community inspired everyone.

A1F was honored to be joined by remarkable supporters and leaders, including Dr. Karina Serban from the University of Florida, and Dr. Samantha Lindsay, Jon Hagstrom, Chair of the A1F Board of Directors, and Catherine Vernon, A1F board member, also participated in the event.

“We are looking to build on the success of this event and encourage family and friends to join us again next year to raise even more awareness and funds for Alpha-1,” said Angela McBride, Senior Director of Corporate Relations and Strategic Alliances.

One of the day’s proudest moments came as Alpha Lisa Kosak crossed the finish line with tears in her eyes and gratitude in her heart. Just nine months ago, Lisa received an incredible gift of life with a double lung transplant. She put those new lungs to remarkable use, inspiring everyone around her and helping educate others by sharing her powerful Alpha story. Even if they did not ride, our Alphas continued to support the team with their outstanding cheerleader spirit, welcoming riders across the finish line and thanking them for their support.

Our Alpha volunteers asked riders why they rode, captured meaningful moments on our “Why I Ride” boards, which beautifully showcased the passion and purpose behind every participant.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the American Lung Association and their leadership, especially Steven Riddle, Executive Director of Development, for continued partnership and support in helping us raise awareness for Alpha 1.

Thank You to Our Riders and Volunteers

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who made this event possible.
