Annual Meetings

The scientific meetings and conferences organized by the Alpha-1 Foundation generate interest and discussion on Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1). These highly scientific, evidenced-based gatherings often identify innovative pathways to explore and result in actionable strategic initiatives, reinforcing the Foundation’s credibility within the rare disease community.

The Alpha-1 Foundation (A1F) scientific meetings and conferences focus on basic, translational, and clinical science of Alpha-1. Meeting and conference participants include academic scientists, physicians, industry, government agencies, other voluntary health organizations, and patients.

These single-topic workshops facilitate exchange between experts to answer important questions or stimulate additional investigation and often result in collaborative, field advancing initiatives.

The A1F Investigators Meeting takes place every two years to encourage productive dialogues between the A1F research grant recipients and the broader scientific community.

Research-focused conferences are hosted outside of the United States every two years, bringing together International Alpha-1 experts.

Forums created to explore the global network of Alpha-1 investigators and clinicians, with the intent to advance Alpha-1 research and quality patient care worldwide.

Forums that bring together CRCs (Clinical Resource Center) from across the country to foster Alpha-1 awareness and engagement in patient outreach and support programs.

In addition to its participation in the exhibits at the American Thoracic Society International Conference, A1F hosts an annual Grant Awards Reception to highlight a new chapter for A1F’s research program. This reception allows A1F to officially announce and acknowledge the newly awarded grantees.

In addition to the Alpha-1 derived and sponsored meetings and conferences, we also reach thousands of physicians through our exhibitions at major national and international medical conferences and professional society meetings. Through these venues, we are able to create visibility and garner attention for our grants and awards program and promote Alpha-1 awareness and education.

Meetings of interest to the Alpha-1 Foundation include the American Thoracic Society International Conference, the CHEST Annual Meeting, the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases Meeting, the American Association for Respiratory Care Congress, the NIH Rare Disease Day, the European Respiratory Society International Conference, and the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Annual Meeting.
