Alpha-1 Awareness Month: 2025 Week 2 Recap

November continues to raise awareness and funds for Alpha-1. This week focuses on the theme of INNOVATION. A1F is known for tackling challenges with bold, innovative solutions and INNOVATION is the heart of progress. From pioneering studies on Alpha-1 to cutting-edge trials, the team constantly seeks novel solutions that push boundaries and challenge the status quo. Utah Rocks for Alpha-1 in Spanish Fork, UT Led by Craig and Melanie Hamilton

The top-fundraising team of the week, Utah Rocks for Alpha-1, continues to raise the bar for creativity, community, and compassion! This year’s event raised over $13,000, following an impressive $15,000 at the 2024 event and $7,500 at the 2023 event, a remarkable three-year total of more than $35,000 in support of Alpha-1 awareness and research.

Led by Craig and Melanie Hamilton, this rock and roll evening was full of energy and heart. Friends, family, and supporters came together for live music from Bobo’s Band, a lively raffle, and a sweet “Ice Cream for Alpha-1” sundae bar filled with homemade goodies and cookies lovingly baked by Donna Thornton. Donna honors her late husband, Kreg Thornton, an Alpha who passed away seven years ago after a double-lung transplant, by continuing to support and inspire the Alpha-1 community each year.

Among the attendees were D.C. Young, co-leader of the Utah Alpha-1 Support Group, his wife Claudia Young along with his family, and fellow Alphas Ken and Julie MacNeil. Together, they walked, celebrated, and shared stories of strength, hope, and perseverance.

“What an amazing night! My friends and family all came out to support us, and it truly felt like one big Alpha family. D.C. and his family joined us, and we had four Alphas in total. Between the music, raffle, and ice cream bar, the night was full of joy and connection — and we’re already seeing donations continue to come in,” exclaimed Craig Hamilton.

Special thanks to the Hamiltons and everyone who helped make Utah Rocks for Alpha-1 another incredible success. Your dedication and spirit keep Alpha-1 awareness alive and growing across Utah and beyond!
