Medical Stories Season Premiere Spotlights Alpha-1 

Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1), a genetic condition that can lead to serious lung and liver disease, is featured in the Season 7 premiere of Medical Stories, now airing on select PBS stations nationwide. 

The episode, titled “Faith Over Fear,” follows the journey of Michael, a 77-year-old Vietnam veteran from Plant City, Florida, who tested positive for Alpha-1 after his brothers were diagnosed and later passed away from complications of the condition. Though initially asymptomatic, Michael began to experience signs of liver disease. With the support of his wife and medical team, he found the strength to manage his health and rebuild hope. 

The segment also features expert commentary from Dr. Mark L. Brantly and Dr. Ginger Clark, both professors of medicine at the University of Florida.
