The PiMZ Longitudinal Cohort (PiMZ LogiC) Pre-screening and Inquiry Form

The PiMZ LogiC Study for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1) Is Now Open!

About the PiMZ Longitudinal Cohort

A new research study is launching for PiMZ individuals living with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1) and it could change everything we thought we knew! The PiMZ Longitudinal Cohort also known as the PiMZ LogiC study is an observational study that seeks to better understand lung health in the PiMZ genotype.

Historically, patients with the Alpha-1 PiMZ genotype were thought to have no risk of lung disease. However, studies suggest that in patients with obstructive lung diseases such as COPD, emphysema, and asthma with incomplete bronchodilator reversibility incidence of PiMZ genotype can be as high as 8%.

Progression of lung disease in PiMZ patients with Alpha-1 is currently unpredictable and while some patients may have stable lung function over many years, some progress and deteriorate rapidly. Currently, there are no predictors that would help identify patients at risk of rapid deterioration. This study aims to identify biomarkers, clinical events, and features in CT imaging of PiMZ Alphas that may allow better understanding of how patients are affected by the PiMZ genotype and, ultimately, aims to better predict prognosis.

Who Can Participate in the PiMZ LogiC Study?

You may be eligible to participate if you:

  • Are 18 years of age or older
  • Are diagnosed PiMZ Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency
  • Are enrolled in the Alpha-1 Research Registry
  • Have suspected or confirmed lung disease (including asthma, COPD, emphysema, bronchiectasis)
  • Do NOT currently have or have not had stage 1 cancer in the past 3 years of the lungs, hematologic or solid organs other than skin or cervical cancer
  • Have NOT received a liver or lung transplant

Please note this is not a full list of criteria. Additional screening may be needed.

If you are interested, a participating research site can confirm your eligibility.
