World Oxygen Day celebrates everyone who benefits from oxygen therapy. From babies to adults, millions of people rely on oxygen to breathe easier and live better. Alpha-1 can severely impact lung health, making every breath precious. Lung-affected Alphas often rely on oxygen for daily activities and/or for sleep. Oxygen therapy is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as essential for treating serious illnesses and improving quality of life.

Oxygen therapy helps people with chronic breathing problems. Despite its importance, many people struggle to get the needed oxygen equipment, and the COVID-19 pandemic made this even harder. World Oxygen Day aims to highlight these challenges and promote better access to oxygen therapy.
Click here to learn more about the Supplemental Oxygen Access Reform (SOAR) Act of 2024. This bill establishes certain requirements with respect to the payment and provision of supplemental oxygen and related services under Medicare. The Alpha-1 Foundation is working alongside dozens of patient advocacy and medical organizations to reform how oxygen therapy is paid for in the U.S. Implementing legislation based on the proposed Four Pillars of Oxygen Reform, people will once again have access to the resources they need to maximize their quality of life.
Today, we share knowledge about oxygen therapy, advocate for better access to oxygen equipment, and help reduce the stigma surrounding oxygen use. Everybody needs oxygen, but some bodies need a little extra. By supporting World Oxygen Day, you can help improve the lives of those who need it.
