The proposed FY26 budget would slash NIH funding by 40%—a devastating setback for rare disease research. The Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research is calling for at least $51.3 billion for NIH to continue its lifesaving work. The House-passed “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” includes sweeping Medicaid changes, adding work requirements, midyear certifications, and copays, that could disqualify vulnerable individuals from coverage. The Senate is now considering even deeper cuts. We must act to stop this.
