OMAHA, NE — On June 28th, the Big Red Alphas hosted their second annual Ice Cream for Alpha-1 fundraiser at the Natural Resources Center in Chalco Hills Recreation Area. The event welcomed more than 100 attendees and raised an impressive $4,374 for the Alpha-1 Foundation — nearly doubling last year’s total of $2,500.
Guests enjoyed delicious ice cream, raffles, face painting, and a strong sense of community, all in support of raising awareness and funding research for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, a genetic condition that affects the lungs and liver.
“The research that the Alpha-1 Foundation is doing is really amazing,” said organizer Nora Kemmerer. “They didn’t use to talk about a cure when I first learned about it seven years ago, but now a cure is on the horizon. These kinds of fundraising events are very crucial to that goal.”
Thank you to Chelsea Boring and Nora Kemmerer for your incredible leadership and dedication in organizing this special event. With support from local media, generous sponsors, and tireless volunteers, the Omaha Alpha-1 community continues to grow and inspire.
A heartfelt thank-you to all the Alphas, friends, and family members who helped make the event a success: Anne Baumgartner, Matt Boring, Chelsea Boring, Olivia Boring, Owen Boring, John Bradley, Sharon D’Agosta, Heather Dolezal, Jeff Dolezal, Mary Farber, Liam Kemmerer, Nora Kemmerer, Betsy Lomax, Jon Meads, Pat Nosal, Annette Schmidt, Ryan Schmidt, Bob Stier, Kurt Wagner, Terry Wagner, Dan Wheeler, Diana Wheeler, Larry Zimmerman.
