If you or someone you know has Medicare Advantage (MA) coverage, please take a few minutes to check what’s changing for 2026. Two of the biggest insurance companies are ending or combining some of their Medicare Advantage plans next year.
UnitedHealthcare
Humana
This doesn’t mean you’ll lose coverage completely, but it does mean your plan and benefits could change. If you don’t actively choose a new plan, you could be automatically moved into a different plan that might cost you more or cover less of your care.
Here’s what you should do:
1. Find and read your “Annual Notice of Change.”
You should have received this notice by October 1, either in the mail or online in your insurance account.
2. Check for changes.
Even if your plan isn’t being canceled, review what’s new for 2026. Make sure:
o Your doctors and hospitals are still in the plan’s network.
o Your prescriptions are still covered.
o Your costs (copays, deductibles, and premiums) haven’t gone up too much.
3. Don’t assume everything stays the same.
Take the time to review your options now — before you’re automatically switched into a plan that might not meet your needs.
If you have Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, it’s especially important to make sure your plan still covers your augmentation therapy, infusion services, and access to lung or liver specialists. Some plans may change their provider networks or drug formularies, which could limit your options or increase your costs. Reviewing your plan now can help you stay connected to the care and treatments you depend on.
