Richie’s Ice Cream for Alpha-1 Raises Over $2,100

At just two years old, Richard “Richie” Ramirez was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1), a rare genetic condition that can cause serious lung and/or liver disease. By the age of four, Richie underwent a life-saving liver transplant, and today he’s thriving.

This past Saturday, July 12th, Richie was at the heart of a joyful and meaningful event hosted by his parents, Melissa and Richard Ramirez, at the Patrick O’Rourke Playground (Bear Park) in Brooklyn, NY. Their Ice Cream for Alpha-1 fundraiser brought together friends, family, and supporters to raise $2,154 for the Alpha-1 Foundation.

The event was filled with love from raffle items donated by local families to heartfelt contributions from across the country, including a special thank-you to Aunt Annette and Uncle Mike Boggs for their incredible generosity. Richie was surrounded by cousins from both sides of the family, celebrating his strength and the community rallying behind him.

Another special guest, fellow Alpha family the Ciminos, including Santo Cimino, joined in the celebration showing the power of the Alpha-1 community and the bonds that form through shared experiences and support.

“What sweet success! 🍦 We wrapped up a fun-filled day at our Ice Cream Alpha-1 fundraiser, and we’re so grateful to everyone who joined, donated, and helped spread awareness. Together, we scooped up smiles and support for a great cause. Thank you for making it unforgettable!”   Melissa Ramirez, proud mom and advocate

Every donation brings us closer to a cure for Alpha-1, a hereditary condition that affects individuals of all ages. All proceeds support vital research and related programs and remember  every scoop counts.
